(Michigan Contractor and Builder Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Gerald M. Belian, P.E., vice president/principal at Soil and Materials Engineers, Inc. (SME) was awarded the 2007 "Outstanding Leadership Award" by the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD). The award was presented at the 2007 ESD Annual Dinner held on June 21.
The award recognizes outstanding committee work by a member of an ESD committee and is based on accomplishment, communications, community relations, education and professional relations, flexibility and creativity, finances, forward planning, operating, organizing, participation, planning, and publications. Belian's award reflects his contributions to the ESD Construction and Design Committee, on which he has served for 25 years.
With over 35 years of experience, Belian is responsible for senior project management and business development for geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting and construction materials services in Southeast Michigan. He assists clients with projects throughout the building cycle, from site acquisition and design through construction and maintenance/restoration. He holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Notre Dame and is a licensed professional engineer in six states, including Michigan. He serves as the president of the Notre Dame Club of Detroit and is actively involved with other organizations including the Michigan and National Societies of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers Southeastern Michigan Branch, and the Society of Marketing Professional Services/Michigan.
ESD promotes the engineering and scientific professions and provides technical assistance to the community.
