Beijing Netcom Starts Trial Operation of IPTV


(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)BEIJING, Jun 14, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --The Beijing branch of China Netcom, one of the country's major fixed-line telecom carriers, now has opened a new business, Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), in some areas in Beijing for trail.



Named as Broadband Space, the business is now available for residents living in two districts of Beijing with their telephone number starting with 8495, and it is provided on application, according to Beijing Netcom's customer service hotline 10060.

Without publicizing, Beijing Netcom started to build the IPTV trail network in the early April, and it will enlarge its IPTV service coverage in Beijing within the year, revealed 10060.


Besides still in support of the current cable TV channels, the IPTV users can choose to watch seven or eight channels of programs provided by Beijing Netcom, including contents such as sports, entertainment and interactively requested programs.

Before the business in Beijing, China Netcom has already begun trail operation in other places like northern Shanxi Province and northeastern Harbin city.
