Bahra Cables set to spread its wings, boost capacity [Oil & Gas News]

(Oil & Gas News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BAHRA Advanced Cable Manufacture Company Ltd, one of the largest cable manufactures in Saudi Arabia, plans to expand through the manufacture of various copper products such as copper tapes and conductors for the electrical manufacturing sector. The company recently secured $265 million Islamic financing from Standard Chartered Bank for its production boost and expansion into new markets. A major part of it, $200 million, will help the company to further increase its production and enter new markets after having completed the necessary facilities like the new fully automated warehouse, and the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) manufacturing plant, says Bahra Cables CEO Talal Idris. The second loan for $65 million will enable the company to go ahead with its expansion plans to meet the growing demand of the production of high-quality cables.Securing two such facilities from an international bank like Standard Chartered Bank is in itself considered as an international recognition of the company's stature as one of the largest cable manufacturers in Saudi Arabia, and proof of the correctness of its approach and plans since its founding, which had led it to participate in the implementation of several major projects inside and outside Saudi Arabia, says Idris. Bahra's electric cables factory in Jeddah For instance, last year, Bahra won a contract worth SR1.3 billion from the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for the supply of low and medium voltage cables for its projects within 12 months. This contract came as part of a group of contracts totalling SR6.3 billion signed by SEC with national factories last year for the supply and delivery of medium voltage ( 13,8 kV to 36 kV) cables, and low voltage (400 v) cables within 12 months to promote cable networks kingdom-wide."The company is very keen to add more clients to its list of big local, regional and international clients who trust our cables which cover all requirements and meet the highest international standards," he says. The company has also notched a contract from the Korean company Hyundai Heavy Industries Company (HHI) amounting SR127 million, whereby Bahra Cables will supply its products of low and medium voltage cables to the Korean company to be used in the South Jeddah Power Plant. The new power plant, which is being built for SEC, will generate 2.6 MW of electricity, enough for 2 million people. The total cost of the power plant is $3.2 billion (SR12 billion), and it will add 2.6 MW of electricity for domestic and industrial use, which will reduce loads on the existing plants and ensure a constant flow of the electric current and eventually improve the lives of millions of people, which is the ultimate goal of the government, he says.On the question of non-conventional forms of energy he says, after Saudi Arabia entered a new era in the industry of renewable energy and the issuance of a royal decree for the establishment of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KA CARE), which aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the kingdom, Bahra Cables was very keen to be a contributor to this objective. This will catapult the kingdom to be among world's developed countries that rely on nuclear power to generate electricity, thereby reducing dependence on oil as the main source for the operation of its electricity plants and preserve it for future generations.

Idris ... chalking aggressive growth In this context, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two French companies, Areva and EDF. The French companies will be implementing projects in Saudi Arabia under the KA CARE nuclear power programme. This MoU emphasises the international standards of Bahra Cables' products which meet the needs of strategic projects. Idris points out that since its inception, Bahra Cables utilises the world's latest technologies to manufacture high quality cables which are needed for major projects in Saudi Arabia, as well as for export to foreign markets."The company has established advanced production lines to be able to provide products of the highest quality standards. We utilise German technology in our design, production lines and management, and work hard to become a major contributor to the development in the region," he says. The company, headquartered in CPC Industrial Park, which is 25 km from Jeddah, has an electrical cables factory built on an area of 300,000 sq m plus an area for design offices, laboratories and warehousing.Bahra Cables Company was established in 2008 as an affiliate to Construction Products Holding Company (CPC), with Electric House as a partner, to serve Saudi Arabian, GCC countries and international markets. It has offices in all main cities in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and Kuwait and has more than 500 distribution points. The company's production characterised as meeting the highest international documented requirements, where it received a number of accreditation certificates such as (KEMA, IPH, SASO, LPCB, CSA, BASEC), and other certificates for its power cables. The company has also received the ISO 9001: 2008 certificate for its range of medium and high voltage cables, up to 132 KV. It also was the first Saudi cable manufacturer to receive ISO 14001: 2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certificates.
