Author is to teach students

(Leicester Mercury Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) An author who writes novels for publication on the internet is to teach postgraduates at De Montfort University.

Kate Pullinger, who has been made reader in creative writing and new media, composed the interactive online story Inanimate Alice, which won a prestigious digital art award last year.

She will teach on the university's masters course, as well as doing her own research.

Ms Pullinger said she hoped to influence a new generation of students to widen their literary expectations and creativity.

She said: "I think this will become an art form equal to literature and film, but I think we need lots of writers and artists with compelling stories to tell.

"I think as future generations become more 'e-literate', this will evolve and I'm looking forward to working with students where innovation and creative technology is being fostered." The world premiere of the third episode of Ms Pullinger's story was shown at the Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival (EIEF) last month and she spoke at the Edinburgh Book Festival.
