Attorney Phil Beck Named Chair of the Year by Associated General Contractors of America

The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America honored Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP partner Phil Beck with its Chair of the Year Award at its 96th Annual Convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Mr. Beck is the first private-practice attorney to be named Chair of the Year. Mr. Beck also received the high honor of being appointed a Life Governor on the AGC of America Board of Governors.

AGC commended Mr. Beck for his influential chairmanship of its Contract Documents Forum, which represents AGC in a coalition of organizations tat produced several new contract forms this year as part of their ongoing effort to provide the commercial construction industry with fair standard contract forms known as ConsensusDocs. Phil has a long history of volunteer service to AGC of America and AGC Georgia. In addition to serving as Chair of the Contract Documents Forum, he chairs the ConsensusDocs Content Advisory Council.

PHILIP E. BECK is a partner in the Atlanta, Georgia, office of Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP. His practice focuses on construction law, government contracts, and commercial litigation. He joined Smith, Currie & Hancock in 1981 upon graduating 4th in his class from the University of Tennessee College of Law and completing a judicial clerkship with the Tennessee Court of Appeals. Mr. Beck also holds a Master of Business Administration degree (with a concentration in Finance) from the University of Tennessee. He is a member of the State Bars of Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. His published works include chapters on construction contracts and construction litigation in over a dozen books and numerous articles for various construction trade publications. He has been ranked as a Georgia Super Lawyer by the publications Law & Politics and Atlanta Magazine each year since the ranking began.
