APQC Releases Performance Measurement Frameworks

(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
APQC, a provider of process improvement, has released five business
process frameworks for the automotive, broadcasting, pharmaceutical,
petroleum (upstream and downstream), and telecommunication industries.

The frameworks are available to download at no cost at apqc.org/pcf. By
optimizing business processes, companies in these sectors will be
better positioned to remain profitable and hold onto market share in
uncertain economic times.

"The broad, cross-industry process framework helps companies identify
performance gaps in common business processes. The industry specific
versions released today by APQC are like a high power microscope that
allows business managers to zoom in on their core processes," said
Carla O'Dell, president, APQC. "Executing these processes better than
everyone else is what separates superior performers--and superior
earners--from the competition."

Based on APQC's Process Classification Framework (PCF), a taxonomy of
cross-functional business processes, the industry PCFs define processes
and activities that are specific to each industry. These frameworks
incorporate a variety of highly relevant sector-specific process
definitions:

- Automotive includes process details for new vehicle portfolio
planning, developing market strategies, setting business objectives,
creating sourcing strategies, engineering, design validation,
prototyping, and testing. Other processes specific to automotive are
brand management, vehicle demand planning, production scheduling and
monitoring, inventory management, quality validation and managing
dealer relationships.

- Broadcasting spotlights processes for preproduction, marketing,
creating audience profiles, content creation, show budgeting, sales

planning, union labor management, editing and other post production
activities.

- Pharmaceuticals includes industry-specific processes for managing
regulatory approvals, drug testing, quality control, maintaining
records and traceability, authorizing product returns, and managing
union relations.

- Petroleum highlights processes unique to both upstream and downstream
entities, including acquiring hydrocarbon assets, exploration and asset
evaluation, drilling, scheduling plant maintenance, and developing
retail sites.

- Telecommunication features processes for infrastructure planning,
enterprise architecture management, defining channel strategy and
service levels, new service development and rollout, supply chain
management, service activation and customer relationship management.
