New Yorker Wes Moe can't wait. He has wanted one to accompany his iPad and Mac, but held back because he shares a Verizon plan with his wife, a BlackBerry user.

Verizon big winner from having iPhone? Not so fastNEW YORK (AP) _ Verizon Wireless would seem to be a big winner now that it will start selling the iPhone and break Apple Inc.'s monogamous relationship with AT&T Inc. in the U.S. But for several reasons, the iPhone's arrival to Verizon is poorly timed, and Verizon's gains won't be as clear-cut as one might think.

MySpace slashes nearly half its global staffLOS ANGELES (AP) _ Struggling entertainment site MySpace said Tuesday that it is cutting nearly half of its staff worldwide, or about 500 people, after an extensive revamp in October overhauled its look and allowed it to be run with fewer people. Mike Jones, the chief executive of MySpace, said cuts are "tough but necessary" and would put the site on a path to profitability while making it more nimble and entrepreneurial.


AMD's CEO resigns suddenly, board cites growthSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Advanced Micro Devices Inc. forced out its CEO Dirk Meyer on Monday in a surprise twist of fate for a technologist who inherited the chip maker when it was in tatters and won fans on Wall Street for steering it through a wrenching turnaround. AMD is a heavyweight in the computer industry as the world's No. 2 maker of microprocessors. Meyer's sudden resignation caught many in the industry off guard. Under his 2 1/2-year tenure, AMD came back from the brink of collapse by spinning off its expensive chip factories and its stock price went from less than $2 to more than $9 a share.

Indonesia says BlackBerry will filter out pornJAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) _ BlackBerry is working to filter out pornographic content on its smart phones in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, the company said Tuesday. Research in Motion Ltd., the Canadian-based maker of the Blackberry, is also ready to set up a server in Indonesia, said Gatot Dewabroto, spokesman for the Ministry of Communication and Information. But RIM's statement did not address that.

Assange: WikiLeaks to speed release of leaked docsLONDON (AP) _ WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange vowed Tuesday to step up his site's release of secret documents while he fights extradition to Sweden, as his lawyers argued that sending him to Stockholm could land him in Guantanamo Bay or even on U.S. death row. That claim, regarded by many legal experts as extremely unlikely, is part of a preliminary defense argument released by Assange's attorneys ahead of a court hearing next month.
