Analysis Group Welcomes New Affiliates, Announces Staff Promotions


Analysis Group - a leading provider of economic, financial, health care, and strategy consulting services to leading law firms, Fortune 500 companies, and government agencies - announces the promotions of professional staff and welcomes five new affiliates to the firm.

New Affiliates

Zachary Y. Dyckman is a health care economist with particular expertise related to provider payment systems, health care cost analysis, pharmacy benefits, and managed care program evaluation. He has worked as an independent consultant with government agencies, health insurance plans, provider organizations, and pharmaceutical companies, and has served as an expert witness in numerous class action matters, payer-provider reimbursement disputes, antitrust cases, and cases related to insurance coverage of prescription drugs and new biologics. He has testified at state regulatory hearings and before state legislative and congressional committees. Dr. Dyckman has evaluated and designed physician, hospital, and other provider payment systems for more than 30 health insurance plans and has published widely on health policy and finance issues. He served as the executive vice president of the Center for Health Policy Studies and held senior positions on the President's Council on Wage and Price Stability; at the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare; and at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. He has taught graduate economics courses at the George Washington University.

Ira G. Kawaller, president and founder of Kawaller & Company LLC, assists commercial enterprises in their use of derivative instruments to manage financial risk. His work also includes litigation support and expert witness testimony. Prior to founding risk management firm Kawaller & Company and hedge fund The Kawaller Fund, he served as the vice president and director of the New York office of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Mr. Kawaller has held positions at J. Aron & Company, AT&T (News - Alert), and the Federal Reserve System. A prolific author, Mr. Kawaller has published in leading journals, including The Journal of Derivatives and The Financial Analysts Journal. He has served as a trustee of both the Futures Industry Institute and the Securities Industry Institute and on the board of directors of the International Association of Financial Engineers. He was a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board's derivatives implementation group and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board's derivative instrument task force on derivatives and hedging. Mr. Kawaller now serves on the board of Hatteras Financial Corp., a real estate investment trust.

Rangarajan K. Sundaram, the Yamaichi (News - Alert) Faculty Fellow and associate professor of finance at the NYU Stern School of Business, is an expert in credit derivatives, credit risk, derivatives pricing, and corporate finance. He regularly provides derivatives and risk-management consultancy services to clients, including Bank of America, Credit Suisse, Merrill Lynch, the International Monetary Fund, Dun & Bradstreet (News - Alert), and Euromoney. Professor Sundaram is the author of A First Course in Optimization Theory and Derivatives: Principles and Practice, and has published an extensive array of articles in leading academic journals. He is coeditor of The Journal of Derivatives and serves as an advisory board member at the Centre for Analytical Finance in India. Professor Sundaram received the Jensen Prize from the Journal of Financial Economics for his paper on executive stock options and the Glucksman Institute Prize for best research paper in finance. He was formerly an associate professor of economics at the University of Rochester.

Claire Tsai, an associate professor of marketing and cofounder of the Behavioral Economics in Action research cluster at the University of Toronto Rotman School of Management, applies behavioral economics to study decision making in areas that include financial decisions, food consumption, and subjective well-being. She studies the influence of overconfidence on decision making, as well as the science and economics of happiness, which she terms Hedonomics. Professor Tsai has published in leading marketing and psychology journals, including the Journal of Consumer Research and Psychological Science, and is often featured in popular media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal and Harvard Business Review. Her recent speaking engagements include the University of Chicago Alumni Club in Asia Pacific, the Latin American Financial Education Congress, and the Ontario Securities Commission. She has worked with government units in Canada and the United States and with private sector clients, including MDRC's Behavioral Interventions to Advance Self-Sufficiency project. She also served as an expert witness to the ForestEthics Advocacy Association and Ruby Shiller Chan Hasan Barristers in a case involving a public policy change to the energy industry.

Russell R. Wermers, a professor of finance and director of the Center for Financial Policy at the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park, is an expert on mutual fund performance measurement, the impact of mutual funds on stock markets, empirical tests of the efficiency of stock markets, and the role of institutional investors in setting security prices. He developed state-of-the-art approaches to measuring and attributing the performance of portfolio managers. His research also addresses whether investment managers who actively manage their portfolios can consistently beat the results of passively managed index funds. He has published papers in leading scholarly journals and coauthored Performance Evaluation and Attribution of Security Portfolios, a text on the latest scientific approaches to performance evaluation and attribution of professional fund managers. He has won numerous awards for his research and teaching. Professor Wermes has served as an expert witness in numerous matters, including litigations challenging mutual fund fees, the selection of investments for ERISA retirement plans, and investment suitability.



New Managing Principal

Earlier in 2014, Analysis Group promoted Michael Beauregard in the Los Angeles office to managing principal. Mr. Beauregard specializes in the application of economic, financial, statistical, and econometric analyses. He has consulted on a variety of civil and criminal antitrust, securities, and intellectual property matters and has assisted counsel facing investigations by various U.S. and international government agencies, including the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission. His antitrust experience includes cases involving allegations of price-fixing, predatory pricing, price discrimination, concerted refusals to deal, and attempted monopolization. Mr. Beauregard's securities experience includes cases involving allegations of securities fraud and breach of fiduciary duty, the evaluation of mutual fund fees (ยง36(b) of the Investment Company Act), and ERISA-related matters including evaluations of 401(k) plan fees, securities lending, and investment suitability. Mr. Beauregard also has experience in the calculation of damages in cases involving allegations of horizontal price-fixing, attempted monopolization, patent infringement, business interruption, and tortious interference.


New Vice Presidents

The firm has promoted 14 consultants to vice president.

In Boston: Rene Befurt applies expertise in marketing research methodologies to both litigation and strategy case work. Jonathan Borck focuses on applying economics and statistics in the areas of finance, antitrust economics, and energy and environment. Kristen Comeaux has conducted analyses and managed teams for strategy, antitrust, and commercial litigation and damages cases in a variety of industries. Laura Comstock specializes in the application of financial economics and data analysis to litigation and other complex business situations. Ted Davis has experience estimating damages and conducting economic research in a variety of industries, including finance, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, real estate, and transportation. Stephen Fink has provided expert support in a broad range of cases, including antitrust matters, intellectual property cases, general business litigation, and regulatory proceedings. Noam Kirson is an applied microeconomist who specializes in health economics, antitrust, and the application of econometrics and advanced statistical methods. Brad Rice specializes in the application of statistics and econometrics to complex litigation and health economics research settings. Mihran Yenikomshian has extensive experience in data analysis and economic modeling, and has consulted on economic and strategic issues in a variety of industries.

In Denver: Greg Rafert specializes in the application of microeconomic theory, finance, and statistical methods to litigation and business strategy.

In Los Angeles: Ahmer Nabi focuses on quantitative analyses and financial modeling in support of complex ERISA, finance and securities, and commercial litigation and damages matters.

In New York: Minh Bui has extensive case experience analyzing issues related to securities litigation, tax shelters, valuation, bankruptcy, fraudulent conveyance, and mergers and acquisitions. Lindsay Greenbaum has developed damages models and determined claimed lost profits in a range of cases in fields including retail, financial securities, real estate, and medical devices.

In San Francisco: Eric Korman has extensive experience in issues related to securities, antitrust, and regulatory matters.

In May 2014, Analysis Group welcomed to its Boston office Vice President Hiu Man Chan, who brings more than 15 years of economic consulting experience specializing in industrial organization and econometrics.
