Ample Communications Introduces High-Performance Gigabit Networking for PC Platforms; New Ethernet Silicon Offerings Support Scalable Networking Innovations for Microsoft Windows Server 2003

FREMONT, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- May 23, 2006 -- Ample Communications, a leading provider of innovative Ethernet silicon for wired communications, today introduced its high-performance Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) silicon for the volume PC market. Ample's silicon enables PCs to deliver the industry's highest platform-level performance and takes the PC platform to new heights of cost-effectiveness, power-efficiency and performance scalability.

Ample's high-performance GbE silicon significantly boosts platform performance, unleashing the platform central processing unit (CPU) to do a lot more. Now, even a single platform can support from one to multiple ports of GbE, thereby further scaling up the performance. Under similar conditions, legacy GbE silicon completely overwhelms the platform's CPU. Ample's high-performance LAN (local area network) silicon is optimized to become a standard feature of all PC platforms -- servers, workstations, desktops, notebooks and storage. It is used as a LAN-on-motherboard or adapter card in the platform.

"New platforms with high-performing multi-core CPUs need high-performance networking to fully release the platform's power and provide the best value to end-users," said Sanjay Sharma, chief strategy officer for Ample Communications. "For these modern platforms, legacy LAN and traditional CPU-constrained LAN limit the platform's performance and scalability and negatively impact platform power and cost. Ample's high-performance GbE silicon enables these CPU platforms to do a lot more for less."

Ample, together with industry partners, is accelerating the industry's transition from legacy LANs to high-performance LANs. With broad industry momentum behind this, it is expected that high-performance LANs will become the standard feature on all PCs in the near future. This transition has already started with such industry efforts as Microsoft's Scalable Networking initiative. Ample's high-performance GbE silicon is compatible with the innovations introduced in the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Scalable Networking Pack announced today at Microsoft's WinHEC 2006 conference.

"Ample's high-performance GbE silicon, paired with Microsoft's Scalable Networking Pack, enables improved performance and a better overall PC user experience," said Margaret Arakawa, senior director, Server and Tools Business at Microsoft Corp. "These innovations deliver incredible value for end-users through greater scalability, reduced power consumption and lowered costs."

Ample's high-performance GbE silicon is available for deployment. It has been extensively tested, and has full support for all major operating systems.
