Amerigroup Iowa Signs Contract with Mercy Health Network

Amerigroup Iowa today announced an agreement with Mercy Health Network (MHN) to serve the Medicaid population in Iowa. MHN is an integrated health system, which includes hospitals and patient care facilities throughout Iowa. Amerigroup Iowa is one plan available through IA Health Link that will begin serving Iowans on March 1, 2016.

Since 1998, MHN has been providing health services to the State of Iowa. The network operates medical centers in Clinton, Des Moines, Dubuque, Mason City and Sioux City and includes more than 30 hospitals and 181 physician clinics throughout Iowa. MHN is co-owned by Catholic Health Initiatives, based in Englewood, Colorado, and Trinity Health, based in Livonia, Michigan, and was created to improve the delivery of health care services to Iowans.

"We are excited about this agreement with Mercy Health Network, which highlights our laser-focused apprach to the March 1st Go Live date," said Cynthia MacDonald, plan president, Amerigroup Iowa. "Amerigroup is aggressively building a broad and deep network of providers, which will offer greater access to care and help improve health outcomes for our members, and we are eager to begin serving Iowa residents."

"We are pleased to work with Amerigroup to expand access to care to those we are privileged to serve," said Dave Vellinga, MHN President and CEO. "Mercy Health Network is committed to improving the health of the people of Iowa through the delivery of a continuum of health care services, and this new agreement will help ensure access to high quality health care for Iowa's most vulnerable populations."

The Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) estimates 560,000 Iowans are eligible for managed care services. As part of Iowa's new Medicaid managed care program, Amerigroup will serve members in IA Health Link and Iowa Health and Wellness Plan. Amerigroup will also serve the children enrolled in the State's Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa (hawk-i) program. Additionally, Amerigroup will provide services for individuals qualifying for Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) funded substance abuse services; Long Term Services and Supports for seniors and persons with disabilities; and individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
