AMD develops platform for ultra-thin notebooks

Jan 07, 2009 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) --
AMD has introduced a mobile platform that provides high-definition capabilities for ultra-thin notebooks. The AMD Ultrathin Notebook Platform features a new chip, the Athlon Neo, and was jointly developed with HP, which has built its HP Pavilion dv2 laptop around the platform.

AMD said there is a gap in the market between mini-laptops, which are affordably priced but lack certain performance and usability, and ultra-portables, which offer a full PC experience but are expensive.

The new platform, previously codenamed "Yukon", includes ATI Radeon X1250 integrated graphics and optional ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3410 discrete graphics.

Chris Cloran, corporate vice president of client division at AMD, said: "In introducing the AMD ultrathin notebook platform, AMD enables balanced PC performance, including the option of advanced graphics and video for true HD entertainment, all in an affordable, ultrathin notebook, bringing consumers uncompromised mobility."
