"Skip" Bretchel, EVP and CIO at CCMSI. "We provided an in-depth look at how predictive analytics have been applied to claims data to identify and address a program's riskiest areas," said Despres. "Armed with these insights, workers' compensation programs can use proactive interventions on their high-risk claims. For example, they can intervene early on complex injuries to better coordinate care, or they can proactively address the needs of claimants who have comorbid conditions, such as obesity or diabetes. They can also analyze broader claims trends to identify frequent and severe injuries that would benefit from safety and injury prevention programs. By implementing analytics along with risk control initiatives, programs can achieve a five to ten percent reduction in workers' compensation costs-which over time can represent significant savings."
