Al-Qaida calls for overthrow of Pakistan

(UPI Top Stories Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Al-Qaida's second-in-command has called on Pakistanis to overthrow the government by the same insurgent methods being used in Iraq.

Ayman al-Zawahiri appeared in a 16-minute video with English sub-titles that appeared late Friday on an Islamist Web site, and called Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf a bribe-taking, treacherous criminal because of his support for the U.S. anti-terror mission.

I call on the Pakistani people to stand with Islam against the Zionist-Crusader assault, Zawahiri said.

Zawahiri called Musharraf a traitor who allowed the country's nuclear program to be put under the supervision of the U.S. government.

He also repeated taunts he made in January after a U.S. missile strike targeting him in a remote Pakistani village missed him, CNN reported.

We praise Allah that three years after the Crusader invasion of Iraq, America, Britain and their allies have achieved nothing but losses, disaster and misfortunes, Zawahiri said.
