AEA 267 creates foundation
(Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (IA) (KRT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) May 10--MARSHALLTOWN -- Area Education Agency 267 is making it easier to donate to the organization.
The board of directors Wednesday approved forming an AEA 267 Foundation. Board members, meeting in the agency's Marshalltown offices, consulted foundation attorney Rex Ryden.
The board also appointed themselves trustees of the foundation, approved filing articles of incorporation and set a July date for a first meeting.
"This will provide an avenue for those that wish to designate funds for the AEA 267 foundation and various what we're calling subaccounts for specific purposes underneath the foundation," said AEA 267 spokeswoman Beth Strike. Cedar Falls-based AEA 267 provides special education, technology and teacher support services to 60 public school districts and 24 nonpublic schools or systems.
The board also approved:
A $156,000 bid from Matt Construction of Sumner to repair the driveway, curb and sidewalk at River Hills School in Cedar Falls. That was the lowest of three bids, with the highest being $173,020. The project is expected to be finished by fall.
The purchase of $87,460 in special education technology equipment including 57 laptops and 13 desktop computers from Dell. The agency sought formal quotes rather than sealed bids.
"Basically, we consolidated a variety of technology purchases into one order to take advantage of discounts," said Strike. The high quote was from Hewlett-Packard for $88,474.
A $74,918 bid from School Bus Sales of Waterloo for a 46-passenger wheelchair-accessible bus. It is for a cooperative busing program the agency has with several school districts.
The high bid was $76,680 for a bus with an International diesel engine and the low bid was $74,366 for a bus with a Cummins engine. The winning middle bid was for a bus with a Caterpillar C7 engine.
"The board preferred the Caterpillar C7 engine," said Strike.
