The .ae Domain Administration (.aeDA) of the TRA is the Official UAE ENUM Operator

Jun 03, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- Committed to transparency and continuous development that serves the ICT sector in the UAE, the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced today that the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has re-delegated the UAE ENUM space (971) to the TRA.

In this respect, H.E. Mohamed Al Ghanim, TRA Director General, commented: "The .ae Domain Administration (.aeDA) has proven to possess an excellent capability to manage the .ae country code top level domain from both administrative and technical perspectives in compliance with International best practices, hence, accordingly, the TRA delegated .aeDA to operate the ENUM (971) Internet zone for the UAE." "Telephone Number Mapping (ENUM, from E.164 NUmber Mapping) is a suite of protocols and technologies used to unify the telephone numbering system E.164 with the Internet addressing system (DNS), by using a technical method called indirect lookup method. The UAE is allocated the country code (1.7.9.e164.arpa) to represent UAE telephone code (971).

Since ENUM code falls under national numbering resources, and since the TRA supports fair and equal access to national resources and encourages innovation and growth in the industry, the ITU re-delegated the UAE ENUM space to the TRA, which in turn delegated it to .aeDA," added Al Ghanim.

The .aeDA is responsible for the setting and enforcement of all policies related to the operation of the .ae ccTLD, as well as overseeing the operation of the Registry System. The .aeDA has introduced the ?Registry - Registrar Model' into the .ae country code top level domain, to provide clarity of the roles within the industry, to introduce competitive pricing, and introduce service models. Clients have the choice to register .ae domain name from a number of .ae accredited registrars; which has become 15 companies until now.
