Accountancy Professor Co-authors Paper Analyzing Islam's Effect on Businesses in Emerging Markets


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ALFRED, N.Y., Oct. 21 -- Alfred University issued the following news release: Dr. Theresa Gunn, assistant professor of accountancy at Alfred University (AU), alongside former student Dr. Joshua Shackman recently co-authored the paper "A Comparative Analysis of the Implications of the Islamic Religion on Corporate Capital Structures of Firms in Emerging Market Countries." The paper appeared in the International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management (Vol. 7, Issue 3).



Gunn and Shackman have created a paper that "presents one of the first empirical studies of the impact of the Muslim religion on corporate financing choices across a large cross-section of firms in Muslim and non-Muslim countries," according to Emerald Insight (emeraldinsight.com).

Gunn holds a Ph.D. in business administration from Trident University International, Cypress, CA; a master's degree in business administration and a bachelor of science degree in accounting from AU, and an associate in applied science degree from Alfred State College. She has taught a variety of business courses including classes in accounting and auditing. Gunn has also had work featured in a range of publications such as the Journal of the International Academy for Case Studies and the International Journal of Entrepreneurship.


When she is not teaching or publishing papers, Gunn enjoys riding her motorcycle, photography, and travelling, particularly via a cruise.
