AboCom Chooses Staccato Communications' Ripcord(TM) Solution Based on Certified Wireless USB for PC Products

SAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)-- June 1, 2006 -- Staccato Communications today announced that AboCom, a leading embedded WLAN solutions original design manufacturer (ODM), has chosen Staccato's Ripcord(TM) family of single-chip, all-CMOS solutions based upon Certified Wireless USB for its PC dongle and hub products. Staccato's reference designs will be the basis for these products. Additionally, AboCom will introduce an ExpressCard of its own design based on Staccato's Ripcord(TM) chip.

"We are pleased to again partner with Staccato Communications to provide high-quality wireless PC products to our customers, who are among the `Who's Who' of the consumer electronics industry," said Calvin Chang, special assistant to the chairman of AboCom. "These A-list customers will settle for nothing but the highest standards. We believe Ripcord offers us both the best design solution today and the best roadmap for the introduction of future products."

According to a recently published report by In-Stat Research, the estimated worldwide market for UWB-enabled products is expected to reach 289 million units by 2010.

"This announcement by Staccato and AboCom is exciting because it represents one of the first product announcements we have seen for Certified Wireless USB. It also confirms our forecast that this market will begin this year and start an aggressive ramp in 2007. Single-chip CMOS solutions dominate Bluetooth and WiFi, which bodes extremely well for Staccato's Ripcord(TM) solution," said Chris Kissel, In-Stat Research analyst.

"The integration of Staccato's Ripcord Chip, based on Certified Wireless USB, is indicative of their leadership in providing ODMs with timely solutions that will make Certified Wireless USB products a reality by the end of the year," said Jeff Ravencraft, president and chairman of the USB Implementers Forum.

"AboCom and Staccato have had an excellent collaboration from the beginning, and we look forward to our continued teamwork, which we expect will yield highly differentiated products for their customers," said Marty Colombatto, CEO of Staccato Communications. "AboCom's stated mission is to deliver superior customer value through innovative products with integrated solutions. Ripcord can help AboCom achieve its mission by providing a complete, highly integrated, single-chip, all-CMOS silicon solution that is optimized for cost, size and performance."

Customers interested in the PC dongle and hub products based upon Certified Wireless USB should contact AboCom or visit them next week (6th-10th June in Taipei, Taiwan) at Computex, in Hall 1, booth D102, where the hub and dongle will be on display.
