7 Pakistani soldiers killed, 22 injured in ambush+


(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)ISLAMABAD, April 20_(Kyodo) _ Seven Pakistani soldiers were killed and 22 others injured when suspected militants ambushed a convoy of three military vehicles Thursday in a tribal area in North Waziristan bordering Afghanistan, a Defense Ministry spokesman said.



The convoy was ambushed in Panga village, about 15 kilometers north of Miran Shah, the main town in North Waziristan where the Pakistan army has been battling the remnants of al-Qaida and their local supporters, Maj. Gen. Shaukat Sultan told Kyodo News.

"Security forces are responding" to the assault, Sultan said when asked to comment on reports that ground troops aided by helicopters are hunting the militants.
