(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)KABUL, April 22_(Kyodo) _ Four Canadian soldiers were killed when a roadside bomb blew up their armored vehicle in southern Afghanistan on Saturday, an official said.

The attack happened in the Shah Wali Kot district about 40 kilometers north of Kandahar, Canadian military spokesman Lt. Mark MacIntyre said.

"Four Canadian soldiers were killed this morning as their armored vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb as they were heading toward Gunbad in the Shah Wali Kot district," he said.

He named three of the dead as Cpl. Matthew Dinning; Bombardier Myles Mansell; and Lt. William Turner.

The identity of the fourth soldier was being withheld at the request of relatives, he said.

Canada has about 2,300 troops in Afghanistan where, in February, it took charge of the international force operating against former Taliban members in the restive south.
