13 killed, 26 injured in Indonesian train crash+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)JAKARTA, April 15_(Kyodo) _ At least 13 people were killed and 26 injured after an express train crashed into a local train in Indonesia's Central Java town of Grobogan on Saturday, officials said.

Minister of Transportation Hatta Radjasa told local television Indosiar that the local train left the Gubug train station without permission from the stationmaster.

The express train rear-ended the slow train, which was supposed to have stopped on another track, and four train cars plunged into a paddy field.

Rescue workers have evacuated survivors and the dead from wreckage.

The two trains, carrying hundreds of passengers, were heading from Jakarta to Surabaya, the country's second-largest city.

The accident occurred a day after another train collision in North Sumatra province that killed two people. Train crashes are common in Indonesia due to poor management and inefficiency.
