The body of the second female Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan returns home this afternoon.

A military aircraft carrying the remains of Trooper Karine Blais is scheduled to land at C-F-B Trenton in eastern Ontario.

She was killed and four other soldiers wounded Monday when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb, north of Kandahar city. (7) (NHL-Canadiens-Sale) (Audio: 67) It's reported a group of high-profile Quebecers are considering a joint bid for the Montreal Canadiens and Montreal's Bell Centre arena.



The Globe and Mail cites sources in the financial industry as saying Celine Dion, Seagram heir Stephen Bronfman and Quebecor boss Pierre Karl Peladeau are considering a bid.

Team owner George Gillett is said to be into the second round of offers for the team and arena he bought nine years ago for 185 (m) million dollars U-S.


The Canadiens, who have won 24 Stanley Cups, were recently valued at 335 (m) million dollars by Forbes magazine. (7) (Nokia) Despite a 90 per cent drop in profits in the first quarter, cell phone manufacturer Nokia says it still did better than many of its rivals during the current economic slump.

The world's top mobile phone maker says net profit was 193 (m) million dollars compared to 1.9 (b) billion in the same period last year.

Last month Nokia announced 17-hundred layoffs worldwide and other ways to cut employee costs, including offering more unpaid leaves. (7) (Laptop-Death) Police in British Columbia are warning drivers to secure any belongings they have in their cars after a woman was killed by her laptop.

The R-C-M-P in Surrey says a coroner has determined a 25-year-old woman who died in a car accident last month was killed when she was hit by her computer.

Police say Heather Storey's laptop was sitting in her back seat and her vehicle's abrupt stop sent the computer flying into the back of her head.

The force of the blow was so severe that it shattered the computer's screen and bent the frame. (7) (Emergency-Landing) An Air Canada flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil had to make an emergency landing early today at Pearson International Airport in Toronto.

The pilot of the jet reported the aircraft was having some sort of mechanical problem, prompting emergency crews to scramble into place.

About 130 people were on board the aircraft and no injuries were reported as the plane landed safely. (7) (Rimes-Derby) Country music star LeAnn Rimes will help start a new tradition at the Kentucky Derby this year.

Churchill Downs says Rimes will be the first national recording artist to sing ``The Star-Spangled Banner'' at the historic racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky as part of the Derby Day ceremonies.
