DNS basic functions provide: - A way to identify computers like phone numbers. - Servers called Proxy Servers change web site URL-Uniform Resource Locator words and names such as www.techtionary.com to IP-Internet Protocol addresses such as www.helpme.com to 132.22.19.0 (32-bits or 4-bytes). - IP-Addresses are Hierarchical - like telephone area codes. Proxy (local) Servers look at first byte (X.0.0.0 or 132.0.0.0), then next byte (0.X.0.0 or 132.99.0.0), etc. - Unique names - like telephone numbers - no two public domains names or IP addresses are alike. Note that all IP addresses can be used internally as needed. This function is called NAT-Network Address Translation changing private (aka-also known as - internal-illegal addresses) IP addresses to public (aka - external-legal-global addresses) IP addresses. - Your name (domain name or URL) can be moved to different IP addresses on different ISP-Internet Service Provider networks.
