Definition:

IP stands for Internet Protocol, a data-networking protocol developed throughout the 1980s. It is the established standard protocol for transmitting and receiving data in packets over the Internet. IP is a fundamental part of the TCP/IP protocol suite. The current version is v4; however, v6 is expected to be used in the years to come. This is just an explanation of the components to IP not TCP.
