Packet Design Has Banner Year with SDN-Ready Network Management Technology

Packet Design experienced a strong year of profitable growth in 2015 with a 36 percent increase in bookings year-over-year, driven by 43 percent growth in new license bookings. This reflects the company's success in adapting its management technology for service providers, enterprises, and government entities managing complex, next-generation networks.

On the heels of introducing new products and capabilities, Packet Design (News - Alert) grew its business in all major geographies worldwide and across vertical markets, with particularly strong growth in telecom, financial, and government organizations. Customers are seeing the value of Packet Design's analytics and orchestration software to help them take advantage of new technologies such as software defined networking (SDN). At the same time, Packet Design products are enabling them to assure service delivery by maintaining visibility and control across both legacy and SDN-enabled network infrastructure.

The New York City Department of Information Technology & Telecommunications (DoITT) chose the Packet Design Explorer suite in 2015 to ensure optimum delivery of network services to 120 city agencies, boards, and offices, more than 8,000,000 city residents, and 300,000 employees every day.

"DoITT is responsible for maintaining the core IT infrastructure and systems that touch every aspect of city life, and Packet Design helps us ensure that our network is performing up to par at al times," said Jeffrey Stevenson, Network Architect Lead for DoITT. "We like the real-time monitoring and alerts for things that other tools miss, such as prefix drops, route flaps, and service availability so the team knows immediately if there is any loss of connectivity, for example."

Packet Design announced two major technology innovations in 2015. In May, Performance Explorer became the latest addition to the Explorer network service assurance suite. The product uniquely correlates routing events with latency and performance metrics to help network professionals understand how network routing behavior impacts service delivery.

In November, Packet Design announced that the Explorer suite is SDN-ready, providing a service Management and Orchestration (MANO) Platform. The SDN MANO Platform provides access to real-time telemetry, analytics, optimization algorithms, and orchestration functions via open APIs to accelerate customers' deployment of SDN applications. At the same time, Packet Design announced an SDN Traffic Engineering application, built on the platform, which is now being deployed in a number of service provider networks worldwide.

"Our customers must speed the roll-out of new services, deliver exceptional quality, and drive down costs to stay competitive," said Scott Sherwood, Packet Design CEO. "Our strong performance last year is proof that Packet Design's advanced analytics and orchestration capabilities are helping network operators tackle these challenges. We are working closely with select customers to create self-healing, self-optimizing networks."

In 2015, Packet Design invested heavily in research and engineering to accelerate its SDN roadmap, grew its software development staff by 24 percent, and expanded its North America and European sales teams. This year, the company will continue to expand its workforce, particularly in engineering and sales.

About Packet Design

Packet Design technology helps the leading network operators, enterprises, and government agencies across six continents deliver critical services across the cloud. The Explorer product suite uniquely combines routing, traffic, and performance analytics for real-time, path-aware operational monitoring and back-in-time forensics for troubleshooting transient problems that can cause major service disruptions. Interactive modeling helps engineers predict the impact of changes accurately, simulate new workloads for capacity planning, and test failure scenarios to build more resilient networks. With these analytics as a foundation, Packet Design is delivering SDN management and orchestration capabilities in complex, multi-service networks.
