Modernizing Medicine and Miraca Life Sciences Debut EMA Urology EMR System

Modernizing Medicine®, the creator of the Electronic Medical Assistant® (EMA (News - Alert)™) electronic medical record (EMR) system, and Miraca Life Sciences (MLS), the nation's largest independent anatomic pathology lab, today announced they will debut EMA Urology™, a cloud-based EMR system designed for urologists, at the American Urological Association (AUA) annual meeting in New Orleans.

Designed by practicing urologists, EMA Urology was developed as a native iPad application with intuitive touch-screen functionality to give doctors a streamlined, efficient EMR system experience while improving the physician-to-patient relationship. EMA Urology is template-free and cloud-based, enabling almost anywhere, anytime access, as well as easy software updates. Smart phone access to EMA provides users with even greater mobility.

Additionally, the EMA Urology EMR system is ready for ICD-10 with automatic, built-in coding, eliminating the need for more commonly used General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs) or translation tools. EMA Urology is also in a unique position to help physicians address the push toward outcome-based reimbursements. Physician-designed and Meaningful Use-certified, EMA Urology's unique structured data technology handles the Value-based Payment Modifier and enables quality reporting, including Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) program reporting.

Modernizing Medicine is known for specialty-specific systems for the dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, rheumatology and plastic surgery markets. To expand its product portfolio for the underserved urology market, Modernizing Medicine partnered with MLS to accelerate the development of EMA Urology. Like EMA Dermatology™, which is used by approximately 30 percent of the dermatologists in the United States, EMA Urology has an enhanced interface to MLS that enables urologists to send extensive clinical data to MLS pathologists. This integration further helps Miraca's uropathologists with definitive diagnoses, and MLS pathology reports can be received automatically, saving clinical practice staff from manual entry.

"We've carefully developed EMA Urology to meet the specific needs of practices in this specialty," said Modernizing Medicine's CEO and Co-founder Dan Cane. "Working with Miraca Life Sciences enabled us to deliver an EMR system that connects seamlessly to its pathology laboratory."

Frank Basile, M.D., CEO of Miraca Life Sciences, commented, "As the exclusive laboratory reseller, Miraca Life Sciences worked with Modernizing Medicine to deliver a practice-changing EMR system to urology practices that will transform how they serve patients. Our interface to EMA Urology enables physicians to easily send the clinical details that aid our specialty-trained uropathologists in delivering definitive diagnoses."

Also available from any web-enabled Mac or PC, EMA Urology offers the EMA adaptive learning engine adjusts to a doctor's unique style of practice and remembers preferences. Free of templates, Modernizing Medicine's EMR system eliminates cloning and documents each individual patient exam uniquely. EMA Urology also integrates hundreds of practice management solutions.

"A practicing urologist joined our staff to develop EMA Urology," Cane added. "This is one of the aspects that makes Modernizing Medicine so unique; we have 18 practicing physicians on staff who develop EMA for their specialties. Not only that, we've taught them to be developers so that they actually code their medical knowledge into the system. In this respect, EMA truly is developed by doctors for doctors."

Urologists attending the 2015 American Urological Association Annual Meeting in New Orleans can demo EMA Urology at Modernizing Medicine booth 2027 and across the aisle at Miraca Life Sciences booth 1927 from May 16-18.
