Netronome Announces Technology Collaboration and Demonstration of Efficient and High Performance Multi-Cloud SDN-NFV Service Orchestration with Microsoft

Netronome (News - Alert), the leading provider of data plane processing solutions for software-defined networks (SDN), today announced technology collaboration with Microsoft and that it will be showcasing reference designs for SDN and network functions virtualization (NFV) with Microsoft (News - Alert) at the TM Forum Live 2014 event, held December 8-11 at the San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, CA.

Netronome is working with Microsoft to enhance host-based SDN performance, efficiency and scale while advancing lifecycle management of multi-cloud systems composed of virtual networks, virtual machines (VMs) and virtualized network functions (VNFs). A key element of the demonstration is showcasing use of SDN-controlled efficient COTS (commercial off-the-shelf)-based and converged networking solutions with next generation Microsoft Windows-based server platforms and orchestration software, allowing for seamless enterprise and public cloud connectivity to the Microsoft Azure network.

"Host-based SDN and NFV are an integral part of Microsoft's Windows Server platform direction that scales and performs for large scale cloud deployments. Performant gateways and intelligent network adapters are required in such deployments," said Eric Troup CTO, Microsoft, World Wide Communications and Media Industries. "We are pleased to work with Netronome as part of this TM Forum (News - Alert) Catalyst project."

Netronome's highly optimized solutions for SDN and NFV are based on a unique and advanced small core multi-threading architecture that effectively reduces or eliminates memory access latencies. This is a critical requirement in network virtualization and flow processing applications that dominate today's SDN and NFV-relaed products and deployments. Netronome's modular processing architecture and programmability enables optimized networking solutions that span the entire data center while allowing for rapid feature rollouts. The live demonstration showcases the benefits of this architecture in delivering high levels of service level agreements across private and public cloud infrastructures.

"We are extremely excited at the significant prospects that our partnership with Microsoft brings to the industry through integration of our technologies with Windows-based platforms and networks," said Sujal Das, senior vice president and general manager of Netronome's data center business unit. "The collaboration with the Microsoft Windows Server team on the TM Forum demonstration is a significant step toward creating joint solutions that enable efficient scaling of SDN and NFV."

Netronome and Microsoft experts will be on hand to discuss these solutions at the TM Forum Live Event, held December held December 8-11 at the San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, CA (News - Alert). For more information on TM Forum Digital Disruption events, visit http://www.tmforumlive.org/.
