Cloudmark, Inc., the global leader in messaging threat protection for communication service providers, today announced that Chief Technology Officer Neil Cook will address the economic impact of mobile messaging spam at CTIA 2013. The conference, which will take place in Las Vegas from May 21-23, showcases the leaders, ideas and experiences transforming the mobile industry.

What: Session: "The Unseen Cost and Impact of Mobile Messaging Abuse"
Where: CTIA (News - Alert) 2013, Las Vegas (Sands Expo - Exhibit Innovations Stage - Booth 5646)
When: Tuesday, May 21, 1-2:00 .m. PDT

According to research by Harris Interactive (News - Alert), 72 percent of U.S. adults who use their mobile phone to send and receive text messages have received an unsolicited text. In Cook's session, he will uncover the business models driving mobile message spam, as well as why the evolution of the mobile ecosystem has resulted in the parasitic infiltration of the Black Hat community into the world's most ubiquitous channel. Cook will also examine the economics behind specific messaging scams and the positive and negative financial repercussions they create for scammers, consumers, mobile operators and the wider industry.

"Mobile devices have increasingly become a target for spammers due to their widespread adoption. We're also seeing more sophisticated attacks that leverage mobile, social networking and other means of communications to target unsuspecting individuals," said Cook. "It's critical that carriers understand the methodology surrounding these attacks and how they can collaborate to help protect consumers."
