Final public workshop on county General Plan is April 10

Mar 26, 2013 (Colusa County Sun-Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Representatives for Colusa County held the third of four community workshops for a zoning code update on Monday night in Williams.

Community members were asked to provide input on the new zoning code, which is being developed following the supervisor's adoption of the county General Plan update on July 31 last year.

A general plan creates general zoning, while a zoning code is more specific.

For example, an area may be designated "residential" by a general plan. But a zoning code will create the definitions and designations between "rural residential" and "high-density residential." The General Plan identifies six key issues: agriculture, economic development, land use, residential use, conservation and energy.

Each area offers opportunities for the county to respond to desired changes in county management and development. For example, to respond to a market demand there is an interest in increasing the uses allowed on agricultural land to include industrial support uses, such as rice mills or other processing infrastructure.

The final public workshop for the county zoning code update will be April 10 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Arbuckle Fire Hall at 506 Lucas Street.
