Socialtext Broadens Integration Capabilities with Microsoft SharePoint
PALO ALTO, Calif. --(Business Wire)--
Socialtext,
a leading provider of enterprise social software, today announced its
enhanced integration feature Microsoft (News - Alert) SharePoint to provide customers
easy access to Microsoft documents. With SharePoint's streamline
integration, Socialtext enables the ability to upload, view, and edit
Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word files within a browser window
through the collaboration platform.
This advanced integration offers customers access to a complete
documents library that syncs with the Socialtext platform, allowing for
storage of attachments inside SharePoint instead of Socialtext. Shared
documents not only can be stored, but also referenced and are easily
searchable with its simple search feature. In addition, bulk documents
can be uploaded, dragged and dropped to the desired location along with
PowerPoint, browser enabled Excel, Word documents that are easy to
upload through the integration feature for optimum enterprise
collaboration.
"Companies are increasingly realizing the benefits of social through
integration with legacy systems of record. The SharePoint integration is
a further example of how our customers are using Socialtext as a social
layer in their enterprise architecture," says Michael Idinopulos,
General Manager and Chief Customer Officer of Socialtext. "With
SharePoint users ow have a convenient way to access and share commonly
used Microsoft documents, delivering an even more effective social
software platform."
SharePoint provides customers with three simple integration
capabilities. Once a logged-in user uploads a file to a page, Socialtext
keeps a record of the attachment but the actual file is stored inside
SharePoint. Updates and changes to the file can be made in Socialtext or
a new version can be uploaded directly to SharePoint. The three
integration points include:
-
For an optimized SharePoint experience, Web Parts conveniently surface
the user content that's stored on the collaboration platform
-
SharePoint events can be integrated in the Socialtext activity stream
for greater enterprise-wide visibility
-
SharePoint is utilized as the document store behind the Socialtext
interface
"Connecting to other enterprise platforms has always been convenient
with Socialtext's API and now providing our customers with SharePoint
integration capabilities will increase employee engagement firsthand
with our industry-leading collaboration platform," said Idinopulos.
With an advanced API, Socialtext has the capability to provide customers
an out of box integration with SharePoint. Connection is simple and, as
with any of Socialtext's standard connectors, just requires an
administrator to assign the server URL and service account's username
and password for instant access. This delivers another real time social
tool for companies to eliminate information silos, make business more
flexible with 24/7 access.
