American Water's Chief Information Officer Named a Premier IT Leader by Computerworld
VOORHEES, N.J. --(Business Wire)--
American
Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation's largest publicly traded water and
wastewater utility company, announced today that vice president and
chief information officer Mark S. Smith was selected as one of Computerworld's
Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2013. This year's Premier 100 spotlights
leaders from both the technology and business sides of companies for
their exceptional technology leadership, innovative solutions to
business challenges and effectively managed IT strategies. Smith will be
honored along with his fellow IT Leaders at the magazine's conference in
Tucson, Ariz., March 3 through 5, 2013.
Smith joined American Water in 2008 and brings nearly 30 years of
technology expertise and leadership experience in the development,
implementation, and support of IT solutions. Appointed to his current
position in eptember 2012, Smith is responsible for all aspects of
information technology service delivery and management including
Information Technology Services' (ITS) support of American Water's
business transformation and SAP (News - Alert) migration. His strategic focus for the
ITS organization is one based on developing internal business
partnerships, establishing a service oriented culture, and optimizing
(and making more transparent) IT costs.
Smith is actively involved in community efforts and serves as Vice
Chairman on the Board of Directors for Touch New Jersey, Inc. He holds a
Bachelor of Science degree in computers and information systems from
King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. and currently resides in
Downingtown, Pa.
