4 more HRD centres soon [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]


(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) "Minister for labour BN Bacche Gowda on Friday announced that his department plans to start four more Human Resource Development Centres (HRDCs) in Bangalore.

He was speaking at a function held to inaugurate a novel initiative 'Udyogasiri', an information centre for construction workers, which was launched in association with IBM and the state government.

Gowda stated that by the end of 2013-14, all district employment exchanges will be converted into HRDCs. "These centres play a pivotal role in implementing skill-development initiatives, skill assessment, counselling, training and placement activities in the districts efficiently.The initiative, Udyogasiri, a voice portal, is created by Karnataka Vocational Training & Skill Development Corporation. It would increase the effectiveness, penetration and the reach of skill development and employability programmes of the department," he maintained.



The services are available in Kannada and English. The voice portal enables employers to connect to the job seekers of their desired skills by dialing the toll free number 1800 425 8040, using their mobile or land line phones.

The purpose of the system is to enhance employment opportunities for job seekers in rural areas. Similarly, Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Board has created a voice portal, known as construction workers welfare information centre. The purpose of this voice platform is to propagate board's financial benefits.


The services of the board are available in Kannada, Hindi and English on toll-free number 1800 425 2838.
