Open Windows to breathe life into business [Lincolnshire Echo (England)]

(Lincolnshire Echo (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) An IT firm says Lincolnshire businesses should take advantage of the new Microsoft operating system Windows 8. SCS Technology Solutions, of North Hykeham, claims the software is cheap, fast, secure and easy to upgrade.

However, the company says it may take time for enterprises to get used to the system and make the most of its new functions.

To help, SCS is holding a half-day event in Lincoln on Thursday, February, 14.

Jerry Parker, managing director of the firm, explained the system has a number of advantages.

He said: "The latest version of Microsoft Windows, released last October, is a tablet/PC combo with touchy-feely controls and a sleek, fast and fun interface.

"It's being promoted by a series of catchy new ads - you may have spotted some over Christmas.

"It's a big change from Windows 7 and a bold move from Microsoft, who call it a 'no compromise' answer to a world where we now work and play on multiple devices. "Firstly, it's surprisingly cheap.

"Businesses feeling the pinch after Christmas, or watching their own IT budget, will love 8's tiny price tag.

"You can save even more money by upgrading before the end of January, particularly if you bought a Windows 7 PC before June 2nd 2012.

"Online upgrades are smooth and secure, but traditionalists can still re-live the '90s and purchase software from a box.

"The second thing you'll notice about Windows 8, is that it's fast.

"It's built on the same foundation as Windows 7, but it boots in half the time and runs quickly, with Windows Media Foundation and updated USB 3.0 being the main stars of the show.

"Security is important, particularly at work, and Windows 8 is being hailed as the most secure Windows ever.

"It might be worth sticking with the default browser, too - according to NSS Labs, Internet Explorer 10 is the safest browser to use without needing extra anti-virus software.

"Windows 8 makes it easy to upgrade, with smooth auto-installers and the Application Compatibility Toolkit. "A secure online storage locker and automatic back-up of your PC settings also mean that you can access your desktop anywhere, plus switch machines easily." The training event will begin at 9.30am at The Bentley Hotel in South Hykeham. To book a place, visit www.scsevents.co.uk (c) 2013 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
