Pioneer Electronics Updates MixTrax Technology
Jan 11, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) --
Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. released new versions of its MixTrax music management software and MixTrax App for iPhone devices.
According to a release, Pioneer's updated version of the MixTrax App music player made for the iPhone lets users create a nonstop mix from the music libraries currently stored in their devices. The app analyzes the tempo and beat of tracks that are similar in style and identifies the best transition points for each track for seamless music playback.
"The creation of the MixTrax technology comes from Pioneer's expertise in the DJ industry," said Hideki Ono, vice president of product planning for Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "Whether it's through the PC software or the app, consumers can enjoy their own music in an entirely different way."
The new MixTrax software analyzes each track and displays the music information in three types of blocks to enable users to specify the playback range and mixing parameters. Users can also switch the display mode for more precise settings and music editing. Two types of crossfade settings and eight types of effect settings are also available. The mix of tracks can then be saved to a PC or Mac computer as MP3 or WAV files, as well as transferred onto a USB memory device or compatible Pioneer device, such as a Steez music player, for playback. In addition to nonstop music mixing capability, the newest version of the software adds a new Mix Creator function for mixes using portions of tracks (listeners' favorite parts of their songs).
Software changes include faster startup and music analysis for Windows users, and the addition of the Create/Edit mix style and Rhythm Sequencer functions on the Mac OS version. The Create/Edit mix is used to change the playback length of a track (four partial length selections available). The Rhythm Sequencer is used to create rhythm patterns.
Products featuring MixTrax:
-In-dash Multimedia Receivers: AVH-X8500BHS (2013 model) and AVH-P8400BH (2012 model)
-Steez Dance Gear: Crew, Duo and Solo
The updated version adds Magic Mix. The function, accessible on the main screen, analyzes and finds music samples from the iTunes Store that are similar to the currently playing track. The Company said Wi-Fi connection needed for Magic Mix.
The app also features Link Gate and Mix Playlist functionalities.
The MixTrax App for iPhone is available from the App Store. Current MixTrax app users can update to the latest version at no additional cost.

-Universal Electronics to Demonstrate at CES
Universal Electronics Inc. announced UEI Control Plus will be demonstrated, along with other entertainment control technologies, at the Universal Electronics Booth at CES through Jan. 11.
According to a release, UEI Control Plus combines traditional infrared control technology with control protocols across Internet Protocol and HDMI with Consumer Electronics Control to give users control of their AV equipment.
UEI Control Plus uses CEC when available to automatically sense device type, model, and brand of all devices in the AV stack to enable simplified setup of universal control.
Where CEC has missing information, UEI uses its IR and IP device control database with over 100 metadata tags to find and send the correct control code for the device. During operation, UEI Control Plus technology delivers true one-touch viewing functionality.
WControl Plus technology also enables smart device control of devices in the AV stack via Wi-Fi. Smartphones, tablets, and smart controllers can be used to enable app based setup and control of the entertainment experience.
UEI Control Plus is available in two implementations:
-For a source device such as a set-top box, DVD player or over-the-top box. OEMs can add a HOME key to the remote control so that with a single button press, the user immediately switches their home theater system to the OEM's content or service.
-For AV Receiver and Television manufacturers. UEI Control Plus can be implemented as one-button activity switching to allow any user to move seamlessly between watching a recorded TV show, playing a movie on their Blu-ray player, playing games on their game console, or just relaxing and listening to music on their digital media player. All this happens seamlessly with no complicated setup or macro programming required.
"UEI Control Plus has been over a year in development, and as industry leader, we are excited to be able to bring this level of simplicity to universal control. Our vision has always been to bring automated device control setup and friendly control to a mass consumer product. With UEI Control Plus, we believe that we have created a very compelling product offering for our OEM partners that allows them to focus on delivering great audio and video content without worrying about common universal control consumer challenges," said Paul Arling, chairman and chief executive officer of UEI. "We look forward to demonstrating our solution to customers and working closely with them to integrate UEI Control Plus into their products and services."
Universal Electronics is a provider of wireless control technology for the connected home.
