Kopin Announces an Agreement with Olympus to Jointly Develop Ultra-Compact Display Modules for Emerging Headset Market
TAUNTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)--
Kopin
Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN) announced it has signed an agreement with
Olympus Corporation (TOKYO:7733) to co-develop ultra-compact display
modules for emerging consumer headsets, often referred to as Video
Eyewear or Glass, for computing and communication applications. For
comfort and ease of use, the consumer headsets should be super small and
light. The agreement pairs Olympus, the world leader in very small
optics used for medical applications, with Kopin whose unique
high-resolution liquid crystal displays (CyberDisplay® products)
exhibit extremely high brightness and very low power consumption.
Mr. Yoichi Iba, senior general manager of Corporate R&D center, Olympus
Corporation, stated, "The key for the success of consumer headsets is to
integrate very compact optics with bright and power-efficient displays.
The unique technologies of Olympus and Kopin are a perfect match for
this market."
Mr. Hideki Tomine, VP of Display Marketing of Kopin, said, "We are at
the threshold of a major technology disruption for ultra-compact optical
modules for this emerging market and we plan for a series of innovative
optical module solutions. Kopin will market these optical modules, with
a goal to start production in 2H 2013."
