LightRiver Tapped by Lee County to Light Next-Generation Communications Core

CONCORD, Calif. & SARASOTA, Fla. --(Business Wire)--

LightRiver (News - Alert) Technologies, Inc., a leader in the deployment of fully-integrated, multi-technology communications networks, today announced that it has been awarded the contract to upgrade the county's critical communications network. This project maximizes the capabilities of the county's existing fiber facilities and newly acquired right-of-way shared fiber infrastructures, while realizing significant savings over the current leased line access.

Lee County IT Department acquired rights of access to 70+ additional miles of fiber, beyond its own downtown core, through a partnership with a local service provider. The county is seeking to leverage the new access to migrate critical county communication traffic, including emergeny response services, from leased access lines to a fiber infrastructure either owned by the county, or granted by the partnership. LightRiver was chosen to design and engineer Lee County's next-generation Ethernet services network leveraging ROADM (News - Alert) (Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer) technology over a new DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) communications backbone. Training on the technology will enable county employees to become self-sufficient in managing the new network.

"Lee County chose LightRiver for this project because of their expertise in deploying mission-critical communications networks in a timely and budget conscience manner demonstrated during the bidding process," Jim Desjarlais, Information Technology Director, Lee County BoCC. "Based on their technical response and the due diligence the County conducted, we are confident that LightRiver is the right choice for Lee County and its citizens."

"We are proud to be part of this upgrade to Lee County's communication infrastructure," said Glenn Johansen, CEO, LightRiver Technologies, "it's an opportunity to modernize the technology deployed, maximize communications efficiency and save money at the bottom line for the tax payers."
