Appcara Announces AppStack Release 3, A Model-Driven Platform For Streamlined Deployment of Legacy and New Apps into Any Cloud

MILPITAS, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Cloud application platform vendor Appcara announced a major new version of its AppStack application and portability platform, AppStack Release 3, that helps enterprises accelerate legacy applications into the cloud, and to enable service providers to offer a rich set of application services to their customers. With new capabilities for discovery and migration of legacy applications into the cloud, self-service publishing of third-party applications, and support for additional cloud environments including the HP Cloud and IBM (News - Alert) PureFlex Systems, AppStack Release 3 provides a smooth on-ramp to the cloud that maximizes IT managers' time, knowledge and profitability from their cloud deployments. Appcara (News - Alert) is showcasing AppStack Release 3 at Cloud Expo Silicon Valley starting today.

Deployment of complex, multi-tiered applications into the cloud still takes too much time and skills to implement, requiring deep technical knowledge of application stacks, and requires manual, error-prone effort to use. Appcara's AppStack Release 3 includes new legacy-to-cloud application migration capabilities that enable a broader class of enterprise applications to reap the agility benefits of cloud deployment - faster and more easily. Its powerful P2V (physical to virtual) utility provides point and click automation to the often-onerous task of automating the importing of applications into the cloud. With this capability, application developers can take legacy business applications running in traditional physical environments, and assure fast deployment, and fast time to market.

"Anything that makes it easier for customers to accelerate legacy-to-cloud migration and take advantage of our Layr 2 private connectivity and enterprise-class cloud services is highly valuable, both to AIS and to our many clients," said Tim Caulfield, CEO at AIS (American Internet Services). "AppStack Release 3 enables us to migrate customers' applications quickly and automatically from physical colocation servers to cloud-based virtual machines - a win-win for everyone."

With AppStack, developers are fully empowered to address the ongoing application lifecycle, with comprehensive discovery and migration capabilities that carry them from development to test, to deployment and to porting from one cloud environment to another. Because of its model-driven infrastructure, AppStack also allows developers to avoid the pitfalls of traditional approaches like server templates - which are too rigid to address the requirements of the enterprise and which burden the development team burdened with managing template & scripting environments by hand.

AppStack Release 3 offers several other key new features in addition to legacy-to-cloud migration:

  • App Marketplace self-service publishing - to provide enterprise software developers with a ready onramp to monetizing their offerings as software as a service products, AppStack Release 3 includes a new self service portal where ISVs can publish applications - and consumers can create - new Workloads from both open source as well as commercial application components. The feature allows third-party legacy software publishers to avoid time-consuming manual procurement, installation and configuration cycles, and instead simply point and click their way to expanded revenue.
  • New Cloud support: with AppStack Release 3, Appcara's solution now supports the HP Cloud and IBM SmartCloud and PureFlex Systems cloud environments. This adds to the already expansive support AppStack provides for running its software on the major platforms used to deploy into public and private clouds -including Amazon EC2, Rackspace Cloud, Citrix CloudStack, VMware vCloud, Eucalyptus, and CA (News - Alert) Applogic cloud environments.

"We are supporting industry leading service provider customers, who are moving up the value stack by offering turnkey application services to their enterprise customers, including quick and simple deployment of both open-source and commercial applications. In addition, they see an enormous market in migration of legacy servers into the cloud. AppStack Release 3 is perfectly positioned to enable all of these capabilities on most service providers' cloud offerings," stated John Yung (News - Alert), CEO, Appcara.

AppStack Release 3 will ship in the next 30 days. Appcara is showcasing its latest version of AppStack at the Cloud Expo Silicon Valley, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in its booth #940, from today through Thursday November 8.
