SST to hire 100 work-from-home employees

Sep 18, 2012 (St. Joseph News-Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Systems & Services Technologies held the first of many career fairs Tuesday. For most of the applicants, it will be one of the few experiences they get in the office.

"We are primarily recruiting for our work-from-home program," said Brandy LaFave, human resources manager. "We plan to hire 25 people every other week, so we will be having more career fairs." The call center operation at 4315 Pickett Road had a fairly decent turnout. SST, an NCO Group company, is looking to hire around 100 people for the program by December.

Employees initially come to the Pickett Road facility for four weeks for training and then are able to go home and begin work on their computer.


Ms. LaFave said it is an inbound program, so employees are taking phone calls for one of NCO's clients and doing customer service and collections.

"Basically, the concept is a computer and a phone," she said. "They're still doing the same thing (as in the office). And they are able to take the calls and service the client." NCO has more than 150 locations globally and has implemented the work-from-home program at other sites around the world for years, Ms. LaFave said.

"SST has been here for more than 15 years," she said. "We have been doing this from other sites for years and just now introduced it to us. It's worked well so far." The work-from-home call center representatives are not contract employees, but NCO employees. This means they work 40 hours a week for a competitive hourly wage and receive full benefits.

"Our site has more than 700 employees total, and 150 are work-from-home employees," Ms. LaFave said. "We need to hire 100 more between now and December." The local call center handles both inbound and outbound calls that cover a variety of programs, including telesales, collections and support services.
