[May 23, 2012] Petroleos Mexicanos Uses Rohde & Schwarz Solution Tweet May 23, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- In the future, Petroleos Mexicanos will use a communications solution from Rohde & Schwarz to manage the supply of materials and transportation of passengers for six off-shore drilling rigs. According to a release, the main components of the solution are the fully IP-based R&S VCS-4G voice communications system, as well as the VoIP-capable R&S Series4200 radios. Petroleos Mexicanos staff at the control centers in Ciudad del Carmen use the new communications system to issue orders to the helicopters and maintain contact with the pilots during flight. The control center is equipped with six controller working positions and 26 radios are distributed among the six drilling rigs. Backup systems, each equipped with an extra radio, are installed in two additional land-based stations for emergencies. Bruno Manzo, Area Manager for Secure Communications at Rohde & Schwarz, said, "The PEMEX order demonstrates the flexibility of our voice communications system because it is not limited to its main field of application, namely air traffic control. It can also be ideally scaled for small deployment scenarios. The decentralized architecture of the R&S VCS-4G and the outstanding characteristics of the radios make for an especially fail-safe comprehensive solution."
