Imgur Sees Over Two Billion Page Views a Month on the EdgeCast Network

EdgeCast Networks, the world's fastest and most reliable content delivery network (CDN), today announced Imgur, the online image hosting and discovery service, has realized significant gains in site delivery speed using the EdgeCast global network.

Imgur launched in February of 2009 and the site quickly surpassed a million page views in just five months. By the start of 2011, Imgur users were uploading more than 100,000 images a day, which created stress on the company's existing infrastructure in addition to straining an increasingly congested public Internet.

Imgur turned to the EdgeCast CDN in June 2011 to ensure the site could continue its growth and deliver content on a global scale, without any downtime or unexpected outages, and without investing in costly infrastructure. By leveraging EdgeCast's global presence, Imgur was able to gain network capacity, quickly reduce bandwidth and server costs all while creating a high quality and consistent experience for its end users. Using the EdgeCast network, Imgur currently averages more than three million unique visitors a day and two billion page views each month.

Imgur users are viewing more than 1 billion images a day, which is a 1,200% increase since the start of 2011. Due to this massive increase in scale, EdgeCast also provided Imgur with storage and caching infrastructure to ensure user images would always be delivered from the server that is fastest for each user, regardless of their location. Additionally, EdgeCast's caching infrastructure was built to scale quickly, enabling Imgur to provide continuous site uptime, even during the highest peaks of demand.
