GENBAND S3 Session Border Controller Recognized by Miercom for "Unmatched" Scalability Performance and Resiliency Benchmarks in Access and Peering Networks
MADRID --(Business Wire)--
a leading developer of IP infrastructure and application
solutions, today announced completion of one of the most intensive
performance and security validation tests performed against its S3™
Session Border Controller by Miercom, an independent lab testing
facility specializing in networking and communications product testing.
"GENBAND (News - Alert) has earned the Performance Verified status for S3 on GENiUS and
S3 Rack Mount Server," said Rob Smithers, CEO of Miercom. "We were
extremely impressed with the capacity and resiliency of the S3 SBC, and
verified that it provides unmatched scalability in the market. With
regard to the total number of subscriber registrations supported
(600,000), the maximum number of simultaneous SIP calls (300,000) and
call processing rates (~ 2000 calls per second) that the S3
demonstrated, this was highest scalability testing we have performed on
any SBC product. The S3 also demonstrated outstanding CPU and memory
utilization throughout all tests. We observed that these resources were
rarely stressed and never maximized."
During the test, the S3 SBC demonstrated industry leading call
processing performance of nearly 2,000 calls per second and processed 78
million SIP calls with a 99.998 percent success rate - while undergoing
a continuous DoS attack - all without degrading call quality and
reliability. For access deployment scenarios, the S3 demonstrated quick
recovery from network outages or blackouts by registering 600,000
subscribers in less than 22 minutes.
"Receiving Performance Verified validation from such a rigorous and well
regarded third party as Miercom is significant as it confirms our claims
to provide the highest scalable SBC solution in the industry," said B.G.
Kumar, President of GENBAND's Multimedia Business Unit. "These tests
assure that the S3's high performance, density, throughput and
reliability provide a proven platform that satisfies these critical
needs for fixed and wireless carriers for NGN, IMS and VoLTE
Miercom subjected the S3 to extremely strenuou conditions to simulate
real world attack situations and traffic spikes. The testing proves that
the S3's robust security framework protects IP network borders by
defeating a wide variety of attacks such as Codenomicon (News - Alert) SIP Torture,
Ping of Death, PROTOS scan, Invite flood attacks, Response flood
attacks, registration flood attacks and Rogue RTP attacks while allowing
legitimate traffic to pass through and maintaining high performance and
"These Miercom results provide validation that the GENBAND S3 lives up
to its billing in terms of performance and resiliency, even under
adverse conditions and attacks in both access and IP interconnect
deployments," said Diane Myers, directing analyst, Infonetics Research (News - Alert).
"Network border security is increasingly a vital and strategic area of
expertise as operators embrace and deploy IP. Scalability and resiliency
is a powerful strength for GENBAND as the demand from large scale
operators and networks continues to grow."
The GENBAND S3 is a new generation of Session Border Controller - the
Intelligent SBC - that delivers adaptive security, insightful policy
enforcement, any-to-any interworking and advanced session routing for IP
Interconnect, IPX, Hosted Unified Communications (News - Alert), SIP Business Trunking,
Access deployments, VoLTE and the Rich Communications Suite across NGN
and IMS networks. The S3's intelligent security framework incorporates a
pluggable dynamic policy model that establishes a policy binding for
each application and device. Sessions are monitored and analyzed in real
time and corrective actions are taken dynamically.
The GENBAND S3 is the only leading SBC in the marketplace that takes
advantage of commercial off-the-shelf hardware (COTS). This ensures that
GENBAND can rapidly adopt new computing and networking technologies,
providing a price/performance ratio that leads the industry. Combining
the benefits of COTS hardware, a software centric architecture, and
deployment flexibility, the GENBAND S3 addresses a wide range of
performance needs critical to carriers and wireless operators, of all
sizes. The S3 is available as a best-of-breed carrier-grade, standalone
SBC on a rack mount server or as part of the integrated, award winning
ATCA-based GENBAND IP Unified Services (GENiUS)
Platform. The S3 leverages common software across all versions of
target hardware options giving carriers deployment flexibility and the
ability to seamlessly grow their networks as needed.
