IPv6 Evangelist Owen DeLong to Address the 2012 North American IPv6 Summit
DENVER --(Business Wire)--
Hurricane
Electric, the world's largest IPv6 Internet backbone and leading
colocation provider, today announced that its IPv6 Evangelist, Owen
DeLong, will lead a comprehensive discussion of IPv6 address planning
for network administrators today at 3:30 p.m. at the 2012
North American IPv6 Summit.
Mr. DeLong's presentation, titled Address Planning - Trials without
Tribulations, will cover how large of an IPv6 address space an
Internet Service Provider (ISP) should request from its Regional
Internet Registry (RIR) and how best to divide this IPv6 address space
among its end users. In his presentation, Mr. DeLong will assert that
the general rule that all ISPs should get /32 networks and that all end
users should get /48 networks is merely a guideline that does not apply
to all situations.
During his talk, Mr. DeLong will note that an ISP can receive from its
RIR an Pv6 address space allocation larger than /32 if a rational
justification is presented. DeLong will discuss how to determine the
proper size of the requested address space by leveraging a formula that
considers the number of end sites served by the ISP's largest Point of
Presence (PoP) and the number of PoPs involved. DeLong will also discuss
the merits of aligning network requests along nibble boundaries.
After discussing address-space requisition from RIRs, DeLong will
discuss two methodologies for dividing the address space among end
users: "Sequential Allocation" and "Allocation by Bisection."
"I look forward to sharing my expertise on how the interested parties
can break through the numbers game," said Owen DeLong (News - Alert). "With the World
IPv6 Launch right around the corner, this presentation will be timely
and enable attendees to have a numbers plan in place before it's too
late."
In addition to being Hurricane Electric's (News - Alert) IPv6 Evangelist, Mr. DeLong
oversees Hurricane Electric's Professional
Services Division, which has helped a number of enterprises
seamlessly roll out IPv6 onto their networks.
