Managing Unstructured Data: 10 Key Requirements

TMCnet Contributor

Unstructured data comprises approximately 80 percent of all enterprise data. This sheer size indicates the enormity of challenges involved in managing the unstructured data.

The unstructured documents, presentations, spreadsheets, images and multimedia files, which are being added to the file servers, are grave concerns to organizations. Providing secure access controls to shared data is critical. While ensuring data protection, organizations may spend quality resources on irrelevant or invaluable data. To ensure a comprehensive data protection that covers only the valuable and sensitive data is the biggest challenge for organizations.

In a new whitepaper, Varonis Systems, a software company unilaterally focused on data governance, suggests ten key requirements for any effort, system or technology, whose purpose is to protect business data.

While considering the technology, it is important to measure the effectiveness of the solution against ten requirements. They include visibility, control, auditing, security, performance, scalability, ease of installation, ease of use, ease of integration and low total cost of ownership. Additionally Varonis suggests that the technology that restricts access to unstructured data needs to provide sufficient automation to make the process more accurate.

Varonis’ software solutions deliver on the “ten imperatives for protecting unstructured data by showing exactly who has access to it, how individuals are using their permissions and who should have their access revoked,” said company officials. The solution dynamically adjusts as changes to either directories or file servers occur, so that access controls to shared data are always warranted and based on business needs.

In this whitepaper, Varonis explains each of the ten key requirements that are crucial for any data management solution. To know more about them, please visit the link “Managing Unstructured Data: 10 Key Requirements.”
