Skype releases new version of internet communications software
Jan 08, 2009 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) --
Skype, engaged in internet-based communications, has released Skype 2.8 beta for Mac, a new version of its internet communications software for Mac users.
According to the company, the new release has a number of new features, including Skype Access and screen sharing. Both of these features will be built into versions of Skype for other operating systems in 2009.
Skype Access is a pay-per-minute WiFi hotspot access service provided by Boingo Wireless and enabled by Skype.
Scott Durchslag, COO of Skype, said: "The goal of the major new features in Skype 2.8 beta for Mac is to make Skype easier to use everywhere. Skype Access is perfect for those times when users need to make a few Skype calls or send some instant messages or e-mails while they are on the go, and screen sharing is a productivity tool that enables collaboration between two parties, regardless of their location."
