(AME Info (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dec. 1--DU OFFERS FREE HAJ ROAMING CALLS: UAE operator Du has initiated a promotion whereby all post and pre-paid subscribers will be able to receive free roaming incoming calls on all Saudi networks during Haj. The offer is automatically available for subscribers travelling to Saudi Arabia between November 27 and December 20. The company has also introduced a unified GCC roaming rate of Dhs1.25 to receive or make local calls while travelling.

OMAN TO HAVE NEW PREPAID OPERATOR: FRiENDi mobile Oman is to offer users prepaid mobile services in the country. The move follows the Telecommunications Authority's decision to allow reselling of services. FRiENDi has signed up with OmanMobile to offer its own services, using the OmanMobile network.

OMANTEL ENTERS IRAN MARKET: Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) has qualified for the second stage of obtaining the third nationwide mobile network operator licence in Iran as part of a consortium made up of local and international partners. Omantel said the company's decision to bid to be the third mobile network operator in Iran comes within the framework of its efforts to boost its local and foreign investments by joining a global consortium.


QTEL UPGRADES MOBILE BROADBAND: Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has upgraded its national HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) mobile network for the benefit of its mobile broadband customers. The network has been enhanced to deliver HSDPA 7.2 Mbps peak downlink speeds. Customers will benefit from double the previous network speeds and download capacity at no additional cost.

MENA TELECOM OFFERS NEW WIMAX NUMBERS: Mena Telecom has rolled out its new WiMAX 77xxxxxx number range for customers. THe numbers with be offered with its advanced VoIP telephony services. Customers will benefit from unlimited free calls to all other Mena Telecom subscribers, 30 percent lower international call rates, and supplementary services such as Call Waiting, Caller ID, Caller Block, 3-Way Conferencing, Call forwarding, Call Restriction, Do Not Disturb, and Voice Mail.
