Madrid -- Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM) andAlcatel-Lucent
(Euronext Paris et NYSE: ALU) have launched the new "Alcatel-Lucent
Chair", enabling the students of the last courses of UPM's
Telecommunication Engineering Technical School to select a subject on
the most relevant technologies the new broadband multimedia services
and applications are based on.
Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON), service routing, applications
based on the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) and other new services will
be some of the fields in which the students will be able to acquire a
deeper knowledge and specialization thanks to this chair. The academic
activities in the University will be completed with a period of
practical studies at Alcatel-Lucent, after which the students will be
trained in state-of-the-art solutions and technologies.
Javier Uceda, Vice-chancellor of Universidad Politecnica de Madrid,
pointed out that this agreement is one more step in "the long and
fruitful history of cooperation" between Alcatel-Lucent and UPM, and
will enable both entities to contribute to the development of R&D&I and
quality education in the new communications services scenario.
Alfredo Redondo, Alcatel-Lucent's President for Iberia, said: "It is a
great honor for us to offer our knowledge, experience and leadership in
new broadband multimedia services as well as in the complex
multidisciplinary world that must be built around them to the Spanish
University. I am sure that this collaboration will be a success and
that the innovative ideas of the participants in this chair will be an
ideal complement both for our R&D&I network and for UPM's Technical
School of Telecommunication Engineers".

its sales, and owns a worldwide network of R&D and innovation centers.
