New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System Selects Picis CareSuite(Wireless News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Picis, a provider of high-acuity care information systems, announced that New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System (NMVAHCS) has selected Picis CareSuite for perioperative automation, adding to the rapid adoption of Picis solutions by government medical centers for their increasingly busy and demanding surgical environments. The medical center joins a growing base of VA medical centers across the country that use Picis to automate the clinical, business and financial functions in the OR, ICU, anesthesia and post anesthesia/recovery environments. CareSuite's Total Perioperative Automation product suite documents the entire surgical episode - from preoperative scheduling and evaluation of patients, through surgery, anesthesia care and recovery - facilitating the seamless flow of data across the perioperative continuum of care. In addition to CareSuite's cross-product integration, CareSuite has proven integration with a wide variety of medical devices and robust interoperability with the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), which helps eliminate silos of data, reduces redundant documentation and facilitates clinicians' access to clinical data. "Picis is quickly becoming the de facto standard for automating high-acuity areas of Veterans Affairs hospitals," said Todd Cozzens, president and CEO of Picis. "We believe our unparalleled expertise in high-acuity automation, our reputation for proven interoperability with the VA's VistA system and our burgeoning base of successful VA customers are the key factors behind this expansion. CareSuite provides a contiguous, integrated high-acuity database across the OR, PACU and ICU as well as tools, both our own and from third parties, to allow the extensive reporting, data mining and research capability required by the VA's forward-thinking clinicians." The New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System includes the VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, a Level 1 tertiary referral center. The hospital selected CareSuite OR Manager to automate its administrative and clinical functions including surgical scheduling, perioperative documentation, supply chain management, billing and more. OR Manager provides the critical data needed to help reduce costs, maximize resources and analyze the costs of delivering care. The system also offers enterprise-wide Web access to authorized personnel using an Internet browser. OR Manager enables nurses and staff at the VA Medical Center in Albuquerque to utilize a Windows-based documentation tool that is easy to use, consistent, and provides outcome reports for the organization. These include physician statistics for the scheduling of complex cases that optimize the use of busy VA operating rooms. In addition, the system automates surgeon preference cards, time utilization reports, implant logs and cost analysis to help the organization better utilize supplies and resources. Picis technology has been deployed successfully at many VA sites, demonstrating that CareSuite's VistA integration can be configurable to each specific VISN or VA hospital's need. In addition to NMVAHCS, Picis recently announced that VA Palo Alto Health Care System, San Francisco VA Medical Center, VA Northern California Health Care System, VA Central California Health Care System and VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System purchased Picis Anesthesia Manager and PACU Manager to extend their current Picis Critical Care Manager implementations to help improve efficiency in the hospitals' anesthesia environment. Picis will be hosting a live, interactive Webinar titled, "Discovering the value of the VistA integrated anesthesia recordkeeping system" on December 14 at 3 PM EST. Carlos Nunez, M.D., chief physician executive of Picis, will describe how CareSuite supports anesthesia workflow and a VistA integrated record enables patient-focused care, and integrates with clinical data analytics tools.
