The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has hired Nortel ( News - Alert) Government Solutions, a U.S. company wholly owned by Nortel to considerably increase program management and support for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
With Nortel Government Solutions, USCIS is likely to become more flexible in carrying out its mandate by including USCIS staff with highly-skilled program management specialists.
Under the agreement Nortel Government Solutions will provide program management, acquisition and administrative support services to USCIS through November 2011.
"Two decades of providing IT management and support services to this and other Homeland Security agencies have given us a wealth of legacy knowledge and experience that helps us to support their critical missions," said Chuck Saffell, chief executive officer, Nortel Government Solutions. "We are very pleased USCIS has chosen to expand our supporting role with them."
Nortel Government Solutions has of late completed a one-year support agreement with USCIS. The company has plans to double to 10 the number of USCIS offices supported and more than triple to 77 the staff providing such services as procurement strategy development and execution, project planning and scheduling, and day-to-day reporting, purchasing, database management and other administrative tasks.
