Network behavior analysis systems provider Mazu ( News - Alert) Networks is now a member of the PCI Security Standards Council, an independent body focusing on technology standards including the data security standard (DSS) for credit card data security.
The company plans to help by enhancing the existing DSS specification by implementing policies and procedures that enable merchants, banks, processors and point of sale vendors to overcome challenges related to payment account security.
“Having the opportunity to bring together organizations within the payments industry with vendors such as Mazu Networks is critical to the evolution of the PCI standards for today and in the future,” Bob Russo, general manager for the council, in a statement.
Russo continued: “Having exposure to the experiences of those in the trenches as well as to those making the tools to fight the war on data theft makes the policies we develop stronger, more realistic and practical.”
Mazu Networks chief strategist Charles Kaplan described being accepted a member of the Council as “an honor and an opportunity.”
“An honor because the board recognizes the value that NBA systems can bring to the payment process and an opportunity for Mazu Networks to help drive the Council to continue to update security best practices so that companies can actually secure payment data and effectively protect the sensitive and personal consumer information entrusted to them by their patrons,” Kaplan said in a statement.
Part of that opportunity lies in Mazu Networks’ offering of a new solution designed to help companies meet control objective compliance requirements. The system entails end-to-end network audit trails for all types of connections between regulated systems. If abnormal traffic is detected, the system takes action to prevent security breaches.
