MS Office 2008 Enters Beta Testing

TMCnet Contributing Editor

Microsoft (News - Alert) Office 2008 has entered beta testing and is slated for release on the Macintosh platform later this year.

Like its Windows equivalent, the Mac version has the Escher graphics engine that affords it special graphics functionalities, according to APC Magazine.

Though the interface of the application suite will be very interactive, Microsoft's Mac Business Unit will not incorporate the Ribbon interface found in the Windows version.

“Part of our mission with Office 2008 is to expose all the things that are already there and make the product easier to use," said Sheridan Jones, lead marketing manager for Microsoft's MacBU, in a statement.

Office 2008 will also feature a publishing-style layout view similar to iPhoto integration, a desktop publishing application. The suite will also be Universal Binary which means that it will allow Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Entourage to run natively on PowerPC and Intel (News - Alert)-based Macs.

A public beta version may be around the corner.
