CornerStone Scoops Up Distributed Applications Technologies

Seeking to further distinguish itself in the marketplace, CornerStone Telephone Company, an integrated communications provider, has reportedly acquired Distributed Applications Technologies (DAT) for an undisclosed sum.

DAT operates multiple carrier grade data centers and also offers SkySphere, a service that provides virtually hosted private networks and application hosting for small to mid-size businesses and schools.

SkySphere provides hosted software applications and technology so that companies (including those contracted to do special jobs) don’t have to purchase hardware or software, or hire IT professionals. In addition to providing secure data back up, the service also offers unlimited, round-the-clock support. Files can be accessed from any location from any device with an internet connection.

SkySphere offers some of the most popular software applications available, including Microsoft (News - Alert) Office, Microsoft CRM 3.0, Microsoft Exchange Hosting, Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server, Microsoft Project/Visio, Microsoft SQL, Peachtree and Quickbooks. Custom applications can be hosted as well.

“The addition of DAT’s services and its SkySphere product will complement and expand our roster of services by allowing us to offer a full range of business support solutions at an affordable price,” said Dan Yamin, co-founder and chief executive officer of CornerStone Telephone Company, in a press release. “SkySphere is all about making computing simple, convenient and affordable, and we see a tremendous opportunity with this service as we move our business forward.”

“CornerStone’s decision to purchase DAT is a win-win for everyone involved,” said DAT’s co-founder and CEO, David Wilming. “Our technologies will enable CornerStone to offer an additional array of services to new and existing business customers and allow DAT to focus on technology.”

As per the agreement, Wilming will continue to oversee all operations associated with DAT and SkySphere.

The deal follows CornerStone’s recent purchase of Butler Communications, a telecommunications company based on Charlton, N.Y., which enables the company to act as a certified NEC (News - Alert) subcontractor and expands CornerStone’s business base to include large enterprise accounts. CornerStone has also made several other key acquisitions to expand its services in recent months.
